IBM Researcher Sees Moore's Law at Closing Stages
Based on a report by IBMs Carl Anderson, Moore’s Law has reached it peak and is destined to end its time before long. Anderson claims an exemplary growth has to face an end sooner or later."A generation or two of continued exponential growth will likely continue only for leading-edge chips such as multicore microprocessors, but more designers are finding that everyday applications do not require the latest physical designs,” Anderson said.
Anderson also added that sustained progress will not be possible if increasing costs of research and factories continue to block the way. Many companies can barely afford chip plants costing billions of dollars.
Anderson is looking into optical interconnects, 3D chips, and accelerator-based processing to significantly move forward. Accelerator-based processing is in demand right now, securing its future in a very troubled economy.
