IBM Introduces 4TB Solid-State Drive
IBM has launched Project Quicksilver SSD which sports 4.1TB SSD and 1M I/O per second. Quicksilver is 250% faster, takes up one fifth of the floor space, and only requires 55% of the power and cooling consumed by an equivalent harddrive-based system. The project is an enterprise venture and has a lot of advantages over current solutions. IBM is giving a timeline of 12 months before the system will be available.IBM explained why it was ramming on speed performance. "Performance improvements of this magnitude can have profound implications for business, allowing two to three times the work to complete in a given time frame."
