Hijackers Paid to Attack Macs
A group of Russin malware authors have paid people to hijack Mac machibnes for 43 cents each. The most recent attacks signifiy that Mac has become an easy target for highjackers, Sophos researcher Dmitry Samosseiko said.Sramosseiko spoke at the Virus Bulletin 2009 event, discussing a probe he has been doing on a Russian "Partnerka", a network of web partners earning hundreds of thousands of dollars from writing malware and spam.
Samosseiko further revealed he discovered affiliates that are targeting Macs.
"Mac users are not immune to the scareware threat. In fact, there are 'codec-partnerka' dedicated to the sale and promotion of fake Mac software," he carefully explained.
A researcher from Sophos claimed that Samosseiko's findings prove that Mac machines have been increasingly eyed on by many cyber criminals.
