Google Strikes Back to Suspected Phishers

In an effort to deter malware attacks, Google has closed down web sites which they think are pulling strings to exploit the search engine. According to security firm McAfee, a significant decrease in malicious web pages have been seen since Friday.

Phishers are using Google Trends to track the most popular search terms, then use them in their own web pages to boost their rankings. Subsequently, users are redirected to those malicious web pages which put them at great risk.

By Saturday morning, Google started to take down the malicious sites which considerably reduced the number of infected search returns. A spokeperson from Google affirmed that the company made some harsh moves to deter potential web offenders.
