Firefox Reaches 1 Billion Downloas
Firefox is expected to reach 1 billion downloads today, an obvious indication of the browser's growing popularity.Firefox has boosted its market share over the years, trailing just a notch lower than Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Firefox owns 34 percent of the market share, while IE has 60 percent.
IE previously held 90 percent of the market, but Microsoft's legal spat with the European Commission over antitrust violations may have caused its numbers to abruptly go down. Microsoft now allows Windows users to install their preferred browser.
Mozilla introduced Firefox 3.5 in June, recording a close to five million downloads in one day.
Mozilla CEO John Lily said, "So much is happening on the web right now, and it's a great time for browsers. Firefox 3.5 brings together the most innovative web technologies, and delivers them in the most complete and powerful modern browser."
