Firefox Aims to Boost Its Share in the Browser Market

Mozilla director of community development Asa Dotzler recently announced Firefox owns 24 percent of the browser market. He further stressed the company aims to reach 25 percent by the end of the year.

"I think this puts us on track to reach 25 per cent of global usage by the end of the year,” Dotzler said.

"Mozilla's global community of contributors sure does have a lot to be proud of. A special thanks to all of the localisers who have built amazing communities on top of an amazing product."

Mozilla’s latest release was Firefox 3.5, which offers features like support for audio and video, threads in JavaScript, canvas improvements, new cascading style sheets, downloadable fonts and geolocation services.

The company is set to release Firefox 3.7 by March 2010, to be followed by version 4.0. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer now holds 37 percent of the market. However, some surveys reveal Firefox tops all other browsers. With the browser’s growing popularity, Mozilla aims to advance its market share and eventually grab the crown from IE.
