European Commission Dismayed Over IE Unbundling

The European Commission has expressed its disagreement over Microsoft's plans of unbundling Internet Explorer from its latest operating system, Windows 7.

Microsoft recently announced its IE plans to preempt the impending decision of EC on its anti-competition probe. The EC argued Microsoft's move does not suffice what it has in store for the software company.

"The Commission had suggested to Microsoft that consumers be provided with a choice of web browsers. Instead, Microsoft has apparently decided to supply retail consumers with a version of Windows without a web browser at all. Rather than more choice, Microsoft seems to have chosen to provide less," the EC explained.

EC pointed another option, offering various web browsers in Windows 7. The browsers should be presented through a ballot screen, wherein users could select their preferred browser.

Microsoft, on the other hand, is considering the Commission's alternative, but has not disclosed further details on the official release of Windows 7.
