EU Slates Oracle-Sun Deal Resolution

The European Commission has set a date of ruling on Oracle's planned acquisition of Sun Microsystems. The commission is probing on possible anti-trust policy violations with the $7.4 billion deal.

The US Department of Justice has previously ruled to stall the deal as it has to further delve into the possible effects on Java rights licensing.

Research firm Gartner slammed DOJ's decision because of the negative impact on Sun's customers who want to buy the company's hardware and software.

Oracle declared plans of acquiring Sun on April 20, in hopes of gaining larger profit. The firm expects Sun to contibute more than $1.5 billion to its  non-GAAP operating profit in the first year, and over $2 billion in its second year.
