Eric Schmidt Steps Down from Apple Board
Google CEO Eric Schmidt quit from Apple's board, an obvious hint to the search giant's aim to dominate the operating system market. Schmidt has been a member since 2006, but decided to step down due to some conflicts between Google and Apple businesses.Apple CEO Steve Jobs said, "Unfortunately, as Google enters more of Apple's core businesses with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric's effectiveness as an Apple board member will be significantly diminished, since he will have to recuse himself from even larger portions of our meetings due to potential conflicts of interest."
"Therefore, we have mutually decided that now is the right time for Eric to resign his position on Apple's board."
Schmidt served as a non-executive director in Apple and his position was widely criticized when Google launched its own mobile operating system. Google also announced plans of building Chrome OS, which all the more heightened the rivalry between the two firms.
