Electronic System for Minor Offenses Tickets Established
A computerized system was recently built to provide police forces in England an easier way of issuing tickets for traffic and minor offenses. The system is set to take effect by 2011.The current ticketing process is recording paper tickets which are brought back to the station for processing by two IT systems. The new system, which was initiated by the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA), will allow authorities to record minor offenses in handheld devices.
The offenses will later be documented on a single national system dubbed as PentiP. With the new process, police officers will have access to records of unpaid penalty.
"Quick access to information is essential to help frontline officers deal with offenders appropriately. PentiP will speed up the administration of penalty notices, cut bureaucracy and give officers more time to spend on the frontline and contribute to a more joined-up criminal justice system,” NPIA chief executive Peter Neyroud said.
