DOJ Plans to Probe on Microsoft-Yahoo Deal
The US Department of Justice is set to look into the proposed Microsoft-Yahoo merger. The department was already taking a closer look on the major details of the deal; however, it wants the finer points, Bloomberg reported.DOJ will be checking on search-engine ventures, ad pricing, as well as future product plans.
“The antitrust agencies are pretty skeptical of the argument that you need to be bigger to compete," DOJ's former chief economist said.
“The Justice Department will respond, ‘Why can’t you get bigger by competing?’”
Under the agreement, Microsoft will be offering Bing's services to Yahoo. Both companies will split revenues from advertising and ads sold from search engine result pages.
