Dell Pays $9.1 Million Settlement for Discrimination Suit
Dell will be paying US$9.1 as a settlement to a class-action lawsuit filed by former employees alleging the firm of sex discrimination. The plaintiff will get $4.5 million, while the $1.1 million will go the lawyers and should cover other legal expenses. The remaining $3.5 million will be deposited to a fund for base pay adjustments intended for existing female employees who also took part of the lawsuit. The fund will undergo an equity review and salary analysis, according to Dell.
With the settlement, Dell acknowledged there was no misconduct done and both parties have concurred to expel forthcoming legal actions.
Dell's legal battle started back in October, where one of its former employees, Jill Hubley, alleged the firm of "systemic company-wide discriminatory treatment of its female employees." Hubley's camp developed a strong case when a second complainant, Laura Guenther, emerged.
A representative from Dell said, "We're pleased to have settled the issue. ettling the issue enables Dell to continue to build on strong diversity and equal-opportunity foundation and programs."
