China Mandates Web Filtering Software Use

The Chinese government is now imposing the integration of filtering tools with all computer systems sold in the country. 
 

The Green Dam-Youth Escort will be offered as a pre-installed program or in a software kit along with the computer package. The software includes a parental control which mainly controls access to pornographic sites. 

 

The government's move sparked criticisms from privacy groups. China has been continuously bashed for its policies on internet access. The issue came at its peak during the Beijing Olympics when reporters located at sporting venues were restricted from accessing sites.
