Bing Gets New Visual Images

Microsoft's search engine Bing has been modified, getting new images so search results display images and text. Microsoft aims to give users an experience contrary to what has become a traditional way of searching the net. Web viewers may now choose to click on the images instead of the name. Image captions can be turned on or off.

"A study conducted by Microsoft Research shows that consumers can process results with images 20 percent faster than text-only results. So it's clear that images play a big part in helping consumers with a variety of search activities," Bing product manager Todd Schwartz explained.

Microsoft used Silverlight to establish the changes.  The visual searches are still running on beta stage and restricted to categories picked by Microsoft.

The images is Microsoft's way of stealing the spotlight from leading search company Google. The latter still holds the biggest share in the market, trailed by Yahoo.
