Android Security Flaw Revealed
Charlie Miller, a security researcher, uncovered a security vuln in Android. The flaw is believed to allow hackers to manipulate a user's multimedia functions.According to Miller, the bug lies beneath the multimedia subsystem which Android uses for its "Chrome Lite" browser. The subsystem is provided by PacketVideo's OpenCore media library. Miller also pointed out that the flaw is an integer underflow which can possibly set off unfitting bounce checking when writing to a heap allocated buffer. Miller added that the exploit could enable hackers to maneuver a user's browser.
Google admitted it has been notified of its highly celebrated web browser's vulnerability right before it was disclosed to the public. The company said the flaw was patched after two days in the source code repository. The patch is said to be promoted to T-Mobile G1 users with T-Mobile retaining full discretion.
