Alex OS to Simplify Computers

A new IT product that should simplify the way we use computers was launched by the Broadband Company. Alex OS gives scared-of-computers people to use IT services such as email, to use IT connectivity in order to surf the Internet and to do other activities without having to know anything about PCs. The IT company has Alex based on the Ubuntu distribution of Linux without the Gnome desktop.

The difference Alex makes is the fact that users are greeted with a special desktop that offers direct links to very used tasks like Web, Email, People, Office, Play and Photo. Harry Drnec, marketing manager of the IT company, said that “12.2 million people don’t have a PC and 24% [of the UK population] have a computer and they just don’t get it. Apple and Microsoft have left 40% of the population behind and made it too complicated. Using a computer should be simple, it should be plain English."
