Acer Offers Free Smartphones

Acer has finally joined the smartphone market, offering free phones with new contracts to users. Despite weak economic condition, the computer company opted to venture into smartphones seeing a rapid growth in sales. Experts believe shipments would boost by approximately 11 percent; however, Acer expects annual sales growth to reach 15 percent if manufacturers provide cheaper prices.
 

Acer's Aymar de Lencquesaing said, "We want to put in front of the customer a smartphone that they can move up to for the same price as a feature phone."

 

More and more web users browse the internet through their mobile devices which prompted Acer to join the smartphone bandwagon. Acer is slated to release four smartphones with Windows Mobile 6.1 by the end of April, and the handsets will be targeted to another consumer sector.
