This problem has been getting harder and harder to handle. IT connectivity users have to take care of their IT security when surfing the Internet as they might lose important data. Another thing they could do is think about remote backup. According to an FBI-led task force, losses from cybercrime and online scams more than doubled in 2009 to 559 million dollars.

Donald Brackman, director of the National White Collar Crime Center, which runs the Internet Crime Complaint Center with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, said that “The figures contained in this report indicate that criminals are continuing to take full advantage of the anonymity afforded them by the Internet. They are also developing increasingly sophisticated means of defrauding unsuspecting consumers. Internet crime is evolving in ways we couldn’t have imagined just five years ago.” The report came from the IC3 and it said that cybercrime has jumped to 110 percent.

Moshe Ben Abu, Israeli security researcher, wrote on Thursday in a Twitter post that “I didn’t find the vuln’, just found it in the wild. With a little help from McAfee (http://j.mp/c4W3xA) .” McAfee helped him with a blog post, thing that made the IT company review closely what it posted. “We regularly sanitize blog content to prevent providing information that might assist attackers, while at the same time providing a service to customers and the security community to help improve protection levels,” a McAfee spokesman said.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) said that “To cancel your order, you must tell the seller in writing – by letter, fax or email. If sending a letter, send the letter by registered post, so you can prove that you sent it and track its progress. If you have already paid for the goods or services, the seller must refund your money as soon as possible and within 30 days of you cancelling the agreement.” The thing is that 77 percent of the people surveyed don’t have any clue about the differences between buying products online or in shops.

The FCC launched an IT service that gives IT connectivity users the possibility to “test the broadband service they receive form their IT services provider and report areas where broadband is not available.” The testing program is available on the Broadband.gov Web site.

In order to benefit from this test, consumers have to list the address they’re accessing the Web from. The problem is that because of the fact that the test is rather simplistic, criticism was on the agenda. The co-founder of the People for Internet Responsibility advocacy organization, Lauren Weinstein, said that “As anyone who uses speed tests is aware, the location of servers used for these tests will dramatically affect results. The ability of the server infrastructure can be quite limited depending on the ISPs’ own network topologies.”

Cyber criminals do their best to steal sensitive data when unsecure online banking takes place. The newest version of this botnet provides a module that costs 10,000 dollars and that gives attackers the possibility to take control of a computer that is compromised.

Zeus v.1.3.4.x has become more dangerous than ever because of the fact that the author and owner has integrated a new feature that gives hackers the possibility to “take complete control of the person’s PC,” says Don Jackson, director of threat intelligence at IT company SecureWorks. This feature is in fact a powerful remote-control function into the botnet and it was picked up from an older project from AT&T Bell Labs. The problem is that the feature can be compared with a well known IT product such as GoToMyPc.

A lot of Internet surfers that use a social networking site like Facebook or a micro-blogging IT service like Twitter haven’t realized how important IT security is. This still happens after the many hacker attacks that have happened. People don’t seem to mind the messages that tell them to be more careful and as a conclusion they keep having weak passwords.

Twitter, Facebook and Microsoft have talked at South by South West Interactive about the strategies they use for the IT security of their IT services. Director of Trust and Safety at Twitter, Del Harvey, said that “I have a team of 20 folks, which given that the team at Twitter is about 160, is a very large team and we deal with ensuring the user expectations for privacy are there, and when bad things happen we work to fix them.” Security Manager for Incident Response at Facebook, Ryan McGeehan, said that “Awareness is a major thing for us, too. The number of individuals who use the same password across multiple sites is astounding.”

So, everyone with IT connectivity could benefit from this IT service. This means that users of Twitter will have the possibility to add their location to a map that is also linked to their post. However, privacy is key for the IT company and it shows it.

The fact that shows Twitter is privacy sensitive is that people that already have accounts on the website have to choose to use this location service so that they could benefit from it. Biz Stone, one of the co-founders of the company, wrote on the Twitter blog that “Not everyone wants to add their current location to a tweet so this feature is off by default and must be activated. People who choose to add this additional layer of context help make Twitter a richer information network for all of us – location data can make tweets more useful.”

The IT security company has recently launched its newest version of its security IT service called Kaspersky Pure. The Russian CEO doesn’t believe that Microsoft’s free Security Essentials software is good enough.

The Russian CEO said that “I don’t really believe in this project. Microsoft security is like a man with a golf set on the London Underground – something’s wrong. Microsoft has a lot of different businesses: Windows, Office, keyboards. Security is priority number 20 or 30. The resources are spent on the most serious projects. Brand Microsoft doesn’t care about security. Microsoft can change people’s minds and make people think Microsoft is [about] security, but that will cost billions of dollars, I’m afraid.” So, he doesn’t believe the software from Microsoft could even compete with Kaspersky.

After the take down of the botnet that goes with the Koobface worms, the command and control servers associated with it have gone under refresh in order to beat the IT security agents. According to IT company Kaspersky, this refresh was made so that fighters of crimes on the Internet would have much more to handle. IT connectivity users should be aware of the fact that an anti-virus is not enough on the Web.

David Emm, senior technology consultant at Kaspersky Lab UK said that “The changes are a sign that botnet gangs are not just putting their malware out there but managing it like sys admins. Cybercriminals are constantly monitoring their infrastructure making sure the botnet is neither attracting too much attention nor running with too few command and control servers, which would risk them losing their control over the botnet.” Emm is sure of the fact that the take down activities are monitored and hackers want to find a counterstrategy.

This service would give IT connectivity users the possibility to find and see video content on conventional TV and on the Internet. The test would need to use the Android software from Google and it will determine the preferences of users.

Google’s chief executive, Eric Schmidt, said according to published reports that “It makes sense that people would use Android as an operating system for set-top boxes, buddy boxes and TVs. All of those ideas have been proposed by our partners.” The test would show if users would like Web-like searches more than remote control searches. This move shows that this is the beginning of a new way of combining Internet searches and TVs and these two companies are starting a trend.
