TJX Hacker Pleads Guilty on Data Breach Charges
Damon Patrick Toey, one of the 11 people arrested last month for data theft at TJX Companies, pleaded guilty and became the first person brought to justice for the heist. The TJX Companies, Incorporated is the largest international apparel and home fashions off-price department store chain in the United States.Toey is scheduled for sentencing on December 10 in the U.S District Court in Boston. He is facing five years in jail and a fine of US$250,000 on each of the counts. He is also compelled to forfeit all of the money he grossed from the theft.
Toey agreed to settle for a guilty plea on charges of wire fraud, credit card fraud, and aggravated identity theft and to identify all the members who participated in the TJX theft. The alleged frontrunner of the group, Alex Gonzalez, a former Secret Service informant, claimed his innocence on the same charges in the course of his first appearance in Boston on Thursday.
