Three Men Charged for Selling Pirated Software Online
Thomas C Rushing III, Brian C Rue, and William Lance Partridge pleaded guilty for violating criminal copyright infringement laws in the U.S. The three operated several web sites that sold a large volume of counterfeit software using web sites identified as valuesoftwaresales.com, allsoftwaredownload.com, esoftwarevalue.com and priceslashsoftware.com without authorization from the copyright owners. The combined retail value of the software sold by the defendants reached $2,500,00.Sentencing is scheduled on December 19, 2008. All three will be facing five years in jail and will be fined $250,000 each. The case is part of DOJ's aim to eliminate online sale of pirated software and counterfeit goods.
