Tesco's Chip-and-PIN Delay Invites Fraudsters
Britain's biggest supermarket retailer, Tesco, has not yet adopted the chip-and-PIN technology which may possibly attract drive-in frauds at many petrol outlets. The company has failed to install chip-and-PIN readers at pumps in almost 10 per cent of stations that allow customers to fill up, pay and drive off without entering the shop.Chip-and-PIN is designed to protect customers from fraud. This is a government-backed initiative in the United Kingdom to implement the EMV standard for secure payments. The new technology is not a legal requirement, but most retailers have adopted it. Tesco is aiming to install chip-and-PIN by mid-September.
