Rock Phish Gang and Asprox Team Up to Spread Crimeware
The Rock Phish gang, a notorious online mob known for its copious phishing operations, has fused with another criminal heavyweight, Asprox to refurbish its network with leading-edge technology. The Roch Phishers first emerged on 2004, made popular for its expertise in setting up phishing sites. Over the last five months, they have scrupulously renewed their groundwork, launching numerous sophisticated packages that are unknowingly installed on the victim's PCs. One of those programs makes infected machines part of a fast-flux botnet that adds reliability and resiliency to the Rock Phish network.
Members of the RSA FraudAction Research Lab believe that the Rock Phish gang now has an updated and highly unswerving fast-flux network. RSA researchers also assume the involvement of Asprox with the gang as the command and control server for the custom Rock Phish crimeware had precisely similar directory structure of most of the Asprox server. In addition, a noticeable reduction has been seen in phishing attacks hosted on Rock Phishers' old servers which corresponds with the phishing attacks used on the Asprox botnet.
