Napster Hunts for Potential Buyer

Digital music server Napster is in the hunt for a buyer in light of its struggling market status.  According to a report from the LA Business Journal, Napster executives are now considering the idea of selling off the company. Napster is said to have hired middlemen UBS to try to come accross an interested buyer.

Napster is an online music file sharing service which allow people to easily share MP3 format song files. It began its legal woes in 2000 when heavy metal band Metallica filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement. Dr. Dre and Madonna also followed suit for similar claims. In the same year, A&M records and several other recording companies sued Napster for contributory and vicarious copyright infringement under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act.  Napster lost the case and finally declared  bankruptcy in 2002.
