Microsoft Introduces National Jobs Programme

Microsoft has pioneered a campaign to aid around 500,000 unemployed individuals in the UK by 2012. The software company will be collaborating with non-government organizations (NGOs) and local authorities to establish a national apprenticeship system, whill will offer employability training and job matching service.

"Of course we can’t wave a magic wand and create jobs for all, and that is why ‘Britain Works’ is specifically designed to give people the opportunity to get the skills and support they need to change their lives themselves, Microsoft UK managing director Gordon Frazer said.

The national apprenticeship programme will generate 3,000 paid apprenticeships for three years, giving participants professional adequacy.

According to Jobcentre Plus, the scheme has been tested several times, and it has worked quite well. Microsoft's initiative aims to reduce the 2.4 million unemployed citizens across the UK. It is helmed by Lord Digby Jones, former head of the CBI and former minister of state for trade and investment.
