Lawsuit Filed on Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo in India
India’s Supreme Court issued notices to Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo subsequent to a complaint on promoting techniques and products for sex selection of unborn children. Sabu Mathew George, the petitioner in the case, said that the three companies perpetrate selection of child’s sex through advertisements targeting Indian users. There were no comments released yet by any of the accused companies.Under India’s Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, the advertisement of products and techniques to help select an unborn child’s sex is highly prohibited. India has an annual rate of 900, 000 unborn girls who die of feticide.
Sex selection advertising in prints has already been successfully banned in the country and now they are hoping to do the same with online advertising.
