Immersion Pays $20.75M to Microsoft
Immersion and Microsoft has finally closed its legal dispute that started way back in 2003. Immersion, a vibrating controller patent holder, shelled out $20.75 million as part of a settlement with Microsoft for breaching a sublicensing agreement.The long-standing legal battle sprung from a complex relationship between three huge companies - Microsoft, Immersion, and Sony. Initially, Microsoft agreed that should Immersion decide to sue Sony over their use of rumble in the PlayStation 3 and win, Microsoft would earn $20.75 million. Immersion won the case; thus, giving Microsoft its piece of the deal. As a result of the same 2003 agreement, Immersion will now be admitted into Microsoft's Certified Partner Program. Immersion will have access to the Microsoft's insider know-how and resources in the lucrative console and Windows PC markets.
