Google's World-Changing Contest Draws to an End
Search giant Google has picked the 16 finalists of its ‘World-Changing’ contest.Dubbed as "Project 10 to the 100th,” the contest produced 150,000 ideas in 25 different languages on how to make the world a better place. The project was launched last September 2008, at Google’s 10th anniversary. Winners will receive a huge amount from a $10 million budget.
"We hoped to capture the imagination of people around the world and offer a way to bring their best ideas to fruition. We were overwhelmed by the response. You sent us more than 150,000 ideas in more than 25 languages and it took more than 3,000 Googlers in offices around the world to review the submissions,” Google stated in a blog post.
Google picked 16 idea themes, ranging from developing new mass transportation technologies to building a real-time, user-reported news service, creating a real-time natural crisis tracking system and creating a genocide monitoring and alert system.
Users will have the chance to vote for the next two weeks. The five winning ideas will then be announced, which will get funding from Google. Consequently, the firm will solicit for proposals on how to put the ideas to work.
