Google Plans to Axe Sales and Marketing Employees

Google has recently announded plans to trim down its workforce, particularly in the sales and marketing department.  Around 200 redundant positions will be chopped in an effort to streamline its business.

Google stated in a blog, "So today we have informed Googlers that we plan to reduce the number of roles within our sales and marketing organisations by just under 200 globally."

"Making changes of this kind is never easy, and we recognise that the recession makes the timing even more difficult for the Googlers concerned. We did look at a number of different options, but ultimately concluded that we had to restructure our organisations in order to improve our effectiveness and efficiency as a business."

The search company has not disclosed what particular regions will be affected by the layoffs; however, there are speculations US workers will be hit most. Google will be offering a 60-day consultancy period for laid off employees, wherein they can seek for other positions in the company before being given a severance package.
