Energy Experts Suggest Building Greener Datacentres
At the Emerging Technology Conference in Boston, energy experts have suggested several ways to keep greener datacentres to save a huge amount of money and power.Datacentres use up 1.5 percent of the entire energy consumption across the US. The number is expected to rise by 50 percent sometime in 2013 unless IT companies look for a better way to save energy.
Most datacentres run servers at full power even when not in use. Intel and AMD have launched chips that can power down when machines are idle. Using these chips can save a great amount of power.
“In most datacentres these power-saving features are switched off,” Uptime Institute executive director Kenneth Brill said.
Companies are also encouraged to venture in cloud computing because its servers are fully used, making it more energy efficient.
