British Hacker Files Final Appeal to British Government
British hacker, Gary McKinnon, made his final appeal to home secretary Jacqui Smith to stop being extradited to the United States after his previous appeal was rejected by the European Court of Human Rights. McKinnon contends he should not be tried in the U.S for possibilities of being treated as a terrorist and imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay.If convicted, McKinnon will be facing 80 years in jail for breaching networks owned by NASA, the US Army, US Navy, Department of Defense, and the US Air Force. He strongly denies the allegations claiming he was only looking for information on UFOs and aliens. The U.S government revealed McKinnon caused nearly US$1 million (£550,000) of damages. The attack on their networks also disabled military systems after the 9/11 tragedy.
