Virgin Teams Up with Universal, Offers Music Service

Virgin Media and Universal Music have closed a deal to offer a music download service across the UK.
 

Users can get the music service if they subscribe to Virgin's broadband package. In addition, they can enjoy unlimited downloads of tracks by Universal artists for a monthly subscription, and limited downloads at a cut-rate price.

 

Both Virgin and Universal will outline a strategy that would cork illegal downloads and distribution. 

 

Virgin Media chief executive Neil Berkett said, "In terms of convenience and value, our new music service will be superior to anything that's available online today, and provides a fair deal for consumers and artists."

 

Neither Virgin nor Universal disclosed when the service will be available and how it will go about its pricing scheme.
