Verizon Reaches 100 Gbps In Optical Pilot

Verizon, along with Nokia Siemens Network, established a new distance record by transmitting a 100-Gbps core optical communication in a single wavelength for more than 646 miles.


Through the test, both companies were able to uncover the capability of current network configurations to buoy capacity upgrades reaching 100 Gbps per channel on existing routes without the need to alter the physical network. Mark Wegleitner, Verizon's senior VP for technology, said, "Verizon's goal is to drive optical networking to deliver greater capacities over longer distances to enhance the high performance and high bandwidth of our network."
