Unique Domain Names Reach 183 Million

According to Verisign, the number of unique domain names has already accounted to 183 million. New domains have increased by 12 percent. 
 

Verisign's research concluded that .com TLD is the most widely used web suffix. Country codes, on the other hand, have increased its popularity by 18 percent. The number of these codes is estimated to be at 74.1 million. The most commonly used country code is China's .cn, followed by Germany's .de. 

 

Verisign asserted that the increase in new domains just proves that Domain Name System is still largely important. 

 

Verisign naming services VP Jill Corso said, "DNS becomes even more critical to the overall infrastructure of the internet, not only as usage grows but as innovative products and services related to the DNS proliferate."
