Tesco is now venturing in a new online clothing collection and bolstering its financial services offerings to survive the global financial downturn.

Tesco's sales increased by 11 percent, while its profits grew enormously to 21 percent. In an attempt to empower its business, the firm has launched an online clothing store where 3,500 product lines are being offered. Consumers can choose from 20 brands, a huge collection aimed to boost Tesco's clothing sales online by 10 percent.

Tesco has also seen an increase in the number of its active grocery customers, surpassing the one million mark.  The company declared service levels have exceeded the target, lowering down its abandonment rate and trimming down its call volumes to service centres.

Tesco teamed up with financial services firm Fortis to boost its banking and insurance platforms. The integration also aims to enhance Tesco's core technology platforms for the banking products.

"The progress across the group, combined with our strong financial position funding continued investment in new space and new businesses, means we’re well-placed for the global recovery,” Tesco chief executive Terry Leahy said.
