Protesters Use the Web, Targets Iranian Elections
Protesters of Iran's national election have used the internet to launch attacks against candidates Mir Hossen Mousavi and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.Both parties have employed hack attacks through Twitter and other blogging sites. Denial-of-service attacks are also being used against government websites.
The Iranian governent is known to have used the internet to equal the damage done of protesters on the streets. News sites are mostly targeted such as that of The Atlantic magazine writer Andrew Sullivan.
Iran is not the only country where web attacks are launched as a form of protest against national issues. Russia and Eastern Europe became news headlines when hackers hurled massive internet attacks in connection with the conflicts in Georgia and Estonia.
