Privacy Watchdogs Concern About Google Health 'Share' Offering
Various privacy advocates are recently questioning Google's move to allow Google Health users to share medical information with others using an email link. Google Health is a service that enables users to store medical records online.Google aims to share medical data to the "right people." Sameer Samat, director of product management at Google Health, stated in a blog, "One issue we hear regularly is that people want help coordinating their care and the care of loved ones."
Samat added, "They want the ability to share their medical records and personal health information with trusted family members, friends, and doctors in their care network."
Privacy groups are concerned about the new feature as it may encourage cyber criminals to pilfer sensitive information. Google Health's share service is not in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act; thus making some privacy advocates worried about possible data breaches affecting millions of patients.
