NHS Pays BT a Hefty Amount for National Programme for IT
The NHS is set to render BT additional £546 million for the National Programme for IT which costs £12 billion.BT carried out the project that established four new patient record systems as well as the system maintenance of eigh existing trusts for RiO systems in the southern region. The project was previously assigned to Fujitsu, but the firm discarded it in 2008 due to cost issues.
NHS' additional budget doubles BT's contract value for implementing patient record systems. The telecommunications company is currently operating in the London region, where patient records system already exists.
BT lost £134 million due to some problems concerning the NHS agreement. The firm has not made any official statement on its business deals.
