Net Giants against Blocking File-Sharing Sites
Net Giants against Blocking File-Sharing Sites
Some net giants have something to say when talking about the law that would make IT services providers forbid and block access of IT connectivity users to visit Internet sites carrying pirated music and video. IT companies such as Google, eBay and BT don't agree with this law and they have decided to be present on a letter that doesn't support this law and considers it a threat freedom of speech of IT services users. The letter states that "endorsing a policy that would encourage the blocking of websites by UK broadband providers or other internet companies is a very serious step for the UK to take. There are myriad legal, technical and practical issues to reconcile before this can be considered a proportionate and necessary public policy option." This last minute amendment was added to the Digital Economy Bill and it was accepted by the House of Lords. The letter is also signed by some ISPs, tech-savvy celebrity Stephen Fry and Labour MP Tom Watson.
