Most Brits Are Broadband Subscribers, Research Says
According to a research facilitated by the Office for National Statistics, 19 out of 20 internet connections in UK are through broadband. The last month of 2008 recorded a whopping 95.1 percent of broadband usage. There was also a year on year boost in the index of broadband connections of 4.4, recording a quarterly increase of 0.8 percent.The expanding market share of broadband internet started way back 2001, showing a rapid increase in its popularity as well as availability. Dial-up, on the other hand, continued to fall behind, with a year on year loss of 51.7 percent in index until December 2008.
Furthermore, the use of higher speed connections has been trending up. Around 59.6 percent of broadband connections were had a speed of more than 2mbps in December 2008. On the contrary, 40.4 percent of the connections had a speed of less than or equal to 2Mbps in the same month.
