Intel Distributes First Dual-Core Atom Processors
Intel, a giant microchip company, has started shipping its dual-core Atom processors. The multi-core chips are the first of its kind and Intel is aiming to spread out its reach to the low-cost, low-spec PC market.The Atom 330 has a 1.6-GHz processing core and 1 MB of Level 2 cache. The chip deploys a maximum of 8 watts of power. It has been authenticated with the Intel 945GC Express chipset, which contains Intel's Graphics Media Accelerator 950.
The new chip is designed for netbooks or PCs that are commonly known as sub-$500 lightweight. Sizes come in 10 inches or even less. Intel is also seeking to make an impact on the desktop market with its Atom 330 which are sold to computer manufacturers for a base price of $43 each.
