High Tech Crime Unit Loses Domain Name

It has been uncovered that the National Hi-Tech Crime Unit is no longer in posession of its domain name. The agency was sold by the UK government to a German internet marketer last August 2 this year.
Sophos, an IT security and control firm, seeked the help of UK authorities as websites all over the world are still linking to www. nhtcu.org, the unit's official website.

The National Hi-Tech Crime Unit was part of the National Crime Squad, a British Police organisation which dealt with major crime.  It was created in 2001 as a result of an Association of Chief Police Officers initiative and was defunct on April 2006. The organisation investigated serious and organised crime committed over the internet, such as hacking, virus-writers, internet fraud and other hi-tech crimes involving the use of computers and telecommunications equipment.
