Government's Proposal to Cut Off Downloaders Opposed by ISPs

Internet service providers across the UK highly criticized the government’s proposal to terminate the internet services of illegal downloaders.

BT and TalkTalk insist that the plan will cost the government millions, and that it overlooks the judicial process which may result to penalizing innocent internet subscribers.

The Digital Britain report circulated last June revealed the details of the impending policy. It was proposed by business secretary Peter Mandelson, who has submitted several revisions seen as too harsh for web users.

The report’s public consultation has already ended which prompted ISPs to vent out their concerns.

"The unintended consequence of Mandelson's plan will be to encourage more Wi-Fi and PC hijacking, and to expose more innocent people to being penalised wrongfully,” said CEO of Carphone Warehouse, owner of TalkTalk.
