European Web Neutrality Faces Restriction
European citizens are slated to have restricted internet access as US regulators mull over a new legislation to protect net neutrality. The issue tackles whether telcom firms should be permitted to deliberately speed up or slow down traffic depending on the service or application being used.Telecom operators argue that they should have more power on availability to focus on quality customer service. However, opponents claim the operators just want to boost their own business.
A decision will be revealed by the European Union whether net neutrality should be authorized by November. The Union has already fixed on allowing broadband operators to restrict consumer access to services and applications.
Net neutrality is covered by the Telecoms Reform Package revision, which shares the directive imposed on the EU Telecoms Rules of 2002, increasing the possibility that the debate could be re-opened.
