CIOs Need to Work on Multifunctional Roles, Research Says

A research from Cranfield School of Management revealed that the role chief information officers (CIO) have become short-lived as technology has grown to be a vital aspect business.

The study further noted that forthcoming management generation will thoroughly recognize IT and value its business advantages.

Cranfield’s study said multifunctional leaders will become more active in the IT department as companies head off from technology delivery models to value realization.

Nevertheless, Cranfield cautioned that conventional leaders who define CIO roles differently may result to critical issues. Some organizations fail to establish the qualities of a good IT head and what type of leader they want for their business.

“The value of technology is not in its possession, but how it is used by the business. And this is where the role of the CIO comes to the fore: in demonstrating to the business the role that information plays,” Cranfield’s Joe Peppard said.
