Operators, together with laptop and chipset makers are exhorting for a built-in mobile broadband support in laptops.Companies such as Asus, Dell, Ericsson, Lenovo, LG, Microsoft, Orange, Qualcomm, Telefónica Europe, Telecom Italia, TeliaSonera, T-Mobile, Toshiba and Vodafone are pushing for mobile internet access in notebooks. These companies are said to be shelling out US$1 billion for marketing budget. Laptops manufactured by the participating firms will bear a mark which is similar to a stylized cloud or bird. This is to give consumers an easier way of finding a laptop with built-in support for mobile broadband. The group also aims to extend an alternative to Wi-Fi-based hotspots.
Most mobile broadband users get access to wireless high-speed internet through a portable modem. telephone or other device. With the built-in mobile broadband, users will be employing an integrated module, which is way too convenient than using an external device.
