BT Loses Airport Wi-Fi deal to US Firm
IT services provider BT has lost a battle on the WI-Fi ground and it seems that it can't provide it's IT services in six airports from the UK anymore. The broadband provider lost its contract to supply Wi-Fi to six of the UK’s biggest airports and now IT connectivity will be offered by an IT company from the US called Boingo. The switch to the other IT services provider was decided at an auction held by BAA in February.A spokesperson from BT said that "Boingo won a competitive BAA auction for exclusive internet access in the public areas of six BAA airports. We recognise these are important sites. BAA is the awarding body for the public areas and the decision was theirs." David Hagan, CEO and president of Boingo Wireless, said that "BAA’s decision brings those travelers access to not only six airports in the UK, but also more than 125,000 hotspots around the world with a single account." The airports that will suffer changes are Heathrow, Stansted, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Southampton.
