Broadband Speed Regulations Hit UK
Broadband Speed Regulations Hit UK
According to Ofcom, around a quarter of homes are not getting their expected broadband speeds. Which means it's time for some regulation, albeit watered-down self-regulation.The new rules ask UK ISPs to give an 'accurate estimate' of the maximum speed their individual line can support at the point of sale, with providers also asked to move householders to an 'alternative' broadband package if the actual speed of their connection is 'a lot lower' than the one promised.
Sounds good in theory, in practice it's likely to be completely pointless. No one actually knows what 'a lot lower' means and as this is a voluntary code, there is little or no comeback against any offending ISP.
