Broadband-expert.co.uk urged UK mobile broadband providers to deliver their advertised broadband speeds. The site revealed that users get only 24 percent of the advertised speeds.
The site tested 3,342 connections where the average download speed was only 1.1Mbit/s compared with a promised maximum speed of 4.5Mbit/s.
“It is completely unreasonable for a provider to advertise unrealistically high speeds that the vast majority of customers will never receive," the site’s commercial director Rob Webber said.
"Advertising in this way will not help the long-term growth of mobile broadband or the reputation of the providers if customers feel they are being misled."
Broadband-expert also tested 94,546 home broadband connections where consumers only get 44 percent of the pledged maximum speed. Consequently, Webber recommended that consumers keep home broadband as their main choice of internet service rather than mobile broadband.
