Belarus to Have Higher Control over Internet

"We will identify any person who disseminates lies and dirt, and will make them answer strictly to the law," said President Alexander Lukashenko. This means that the president of Belarus which has ruled Belarus since 1994 is going to implicate IT service providers to take care of their users of IT connectivity and to toughen regulation of the Internet.

The new Internet bill would need a couple of things to be done: the registration and identification of all online publications and of each Web user. The service providers which have the customers use their IT service would have to report this information to police, courts and special services. The thing is that last June, Belarus adopted a media bill that allowed the government to close Web sites without warning.
