Bandwidth and Service Restrictions Broached to Restrict Unlawful Downloads

The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has proposed ways to combat illegal broadband file sharing downloads. The group submitted a draft set of propositions sighting the role of a UK Digital Rights Agency (DRA) to deter infringers.

It is still quite unclear if the bandwidth restriction would only affect P2P users but privacy groups are hoping this would be the case. UK internet service providers are suggested to block ports or limit bandwidth, which wouold cap P2P sharing or illegal downloads.

The DRA is tailored to provide a facility that would address the spiraling problem of P2P sharing. The bottomline of the proposals is having ISPs arrive at an agreement with the creative industry to battle the long standing problem of piracy or infringement.

The DRA is said to be a standpoint for smoothing a another approach in providing content to consumers, how they are packaged and sold. This simply means things like  aiding legal music download channels to flourish alongside ISPs.
